  • Go or No Go: Netflix’s Young Royals S2

I can hardly remember the first season of Netflix’s Young Royals. The first season was released in July 2021 pa! November 2022 na! So much has happened since then. So many shows have been binge-watched and forgotten. So many actors followed on Instagram na di ko na maalala sino after a while. Everything is a blur until Netflix reminds you that a new season is coming up. Iba na rin ang dynamics ng viewers ngayon post-quarantine. It’s a different time and I hope it doesn’t affect my Season 2 watching experience.

What pulled me in to watch Young Royals last year was that the premise was new to me. Finally, a show about royals that is not about the British Monarchy. And even better, it’s a BL! A Swedish BL! Netflix teen shows keep me young and alive. Haha! Young Royals is essentially a Swedish Wattpad story but better. All characters are cast age-appropriately. Walang masakit sa mata na out of place na di mukhang high schooler. The show is only 6 episodes, making it even more bingeable.

Haba na ng intro… Overall, I loved Season 1 but will Season 2 be better or worse? Let’s find out.

  • Go or No Go: Netflix’s The Bastard Son and The Devil Himself Pilot Review

I’m the type of Netflix subscriber who clicks whatever Netflix hands to me. Even if that means 365 Days. But I’ve reached the age that I could decide to stop watching a series or a movie if I deem it unwatchable. Time is precious, my dears. Netflix just released the British series, The Bastard Son and The Devil Himself.

Spoiler alert for “The Bastard Son and The Devil Himself” pilot!

The Bastard Son and The Devil Himself

Caught between two warring clans: the son of a notorious witch responsible for a deadly massacre tries to find a place in the world – and his powers.

So this was the copy I read. I’m pretty sure that I first read something else but I can’t find it. Anyway. The show is an 8-episode fantasy series. Think Harry Potter x The Misfits x The Irregulars. I almost forgot the title of that last one. I’m sure I’ll forget the title “The Bastard Son and The Devil Himself” in the next month or so. It’s one of those algorithmic shows Netflix has been producing. Not complaining though. Just remind me when/if a new season is out. The show is based on a book called “Half-Bad.”

Side note: The episode starts with Amerie’s “1 Thing” playing. So sabi ko, bakit ang luma ng music!? Tapos flashback pala. HAHA.

  • Thoughts While Watching “Ghost Fighter” as An Adult

When I was a child, I thought Ghost Fighter was a horror anime and was very hesitant to watch it. Because, ghosts. It was one of the first アニメ we 90s kids have ever loved along with Dragon Ball Z, Flame of Recca and others. Good thing, Netflix brought it back. So here are just some of my random thoughts while watching. Things we could have missed out when we were pure innocent children. Enjoy.

    Pilot Episode

    • Opening scene was brutal and very teleserye. Namatay agad si Eugene.
    • In the beginning of the episode, the driver was denying that it was his fault but we would soon find out that he was a reckless driver.
    • Whoever thought of the Westernized names of the Filipino version was an absolute genius. Eugene for Yusuke and Alfred for Kuwabara.
    • Eugene was just 14 years old.
    • Eugene was a troubled kid and in the pilot, he was being called to go to the guidance office and not the principal’s office. #Rehabilitation Annalise is proud.
    • Eugene’s mother could be suffering from depression, and she was watching some weirdly drawn TV show.
    • The anime was based on a manga and was inspired by the environment of Japan then. Ang galing lang how Japan maintained everything good about the country like its cleanliness, the school uniforms. Basta.
    • Why is Eugene wearing a green uniform when all his classmates and schoolmates are in blue?
    • Eugene’s funeral photo is red carpet ready. #hot
    • It’s a good thing that Eugene wasn’t cremated or else…
    • Bakit lagi nakatago ang kaliwang kamay ni Charlene?
    • Ang ikli lang pala ng bawat episode. Thanks GMA for the many commercials.
