  • Amiciness Goes on a VL: Oriental Mindoro

Hi Amiciness readers! Since I won a GoPro, thanks to Sponge Cola, (read full story here), from now on, I’ll be documenting my travels in videos and under the “segment,” Amiciness Goes on a VL. For those who are not in the corporate world, VL means “Vacation Leave.” For my first stop, I didn’t technically file and use a single VL. I had only spent a short weekend in Oriental Mindoro (not the side of Puerto Galera). Thanks to my friend/officemate, KC! We traveled to her hometown in Gloria. Gloria was celebrating the Feast of Sacred Heart of Jesus that coming Monday (Feb 15). It’s my first time to experience a piyesta (or as I call it, pista) in the province so I was very excited.

  • Poop (Toilet Café) #Korea

In Korea, you can expect the unexpected (and in the cutest and most delightful form nonetheless). If you happen to be in Seoul, don’t you dare miss passing by Insa-dong (인사동). Insa-dong gave me this artsy-fartsy (no pun intended) hipster feel. Every bit of it is celebrating the colors of Korean culture, beautifully weaving together old and new traditions. I bought a bunch of one-of-a-kind items there. One of it is a pocket mirror shaped like a teardrop; a very unique idea for pasalubong. I will definitely be back!

If Myeong-Dong has a dog café, a cat café and a Hello Kitty Café, go to the top floor of Insa-dong and you’ll find Poop (not literally poop, but a small cute toilet-themed coffee shop).

  • My Visit to the Man from the Stars Set Exhibition

For a Korean drama fanatic like me, one of the highlights of traveling to Korea is visiting Korean drama (or as we call it in the Philippines, Koreanovela) sets . Well, I’m a recovering Koreanovela fan. I try to avoid watching them because they make me stay up so late and my eye-bags can only handle so much. I also get attached to the characters and the stories that I find it hard to move on.

The Korean drama set I visited was none other than the 2014 hit series Man from the Stars (also known as My Love from the Star or You Who Came from the Stars). For those not familiar, the show’s main protagonist Do Min-joon (Kim Soo-hyun) is an alien waiting for centuries for a comet to bring him to his home planet. Fate brings him to Cheon Song-yi (Jun Ji-hyun), a beautiful but a bit nutty actress. I promise you, it’s a must-watch!

    I love them!

The set (one of the house sets used in the series) is located at Korea’s exhibition center, KINTEX (2) similar to the Philippines’ SMX Convention Center only so much bigger and wider. According to the print ads, the exhibition will be until August 2015. What are you waiting for? Go to KINTEX now!
