  • Here is the third part of four of my countdown, i.e. from my least favorite to most favorite to win, for my Eurovision picks this year. (Read my previous Eurovision post for my picks 30-21.)

    20. Israel
    Nadav Guedj — Golden Boy

Sounds like three different songs mashed together, one of which is an Ed Sheeran sound-alike. And nobody believes Nadav is a teenager. But to hell with all of that, this is the funnest song this year. You know, the kind you sing along to at the club in your drunken state. I’m a golden booo-ooo-oy.

  • Here is the second part of four of my countdown, i.e. from my least favorite to most favorite to win, for my Eurovision picks this year. (Read my previous Eurovision post for my picks 40-31.)

    30. Czech Republic
Marta Jandová and Václav Noid Bárta — Hope Never Dies

This definitely sounds like a Bond theme meets Nickelback song.

  • It’s the 60th year of the Eurovision Song Contest, and we’re #BuildingBridges to Vienna. While I’m a relatively new fan — the first Eurovision I watched in full is the Baku edition; forgive me, I’m not from Europe — I’m all for joining in the festivities.

Australia is joining for the first time, which might mean more points for the UK (they have to, right?). And the East seem to be upping their game this year, producing strong entries.

Here is the first part of four of my countdown, i.e. from my least favorite to most favorite to win, for my Eurovision picks this year:

    40. San Marino
Anita Simoncini & Michele Perniola — Chain of Lights

Are we supposed to vote for this song? You get the answer within the first five seconds of this song: No! As Graham Norton (sarcastically) quipped during the 60th anniversary concert, Ralph Siegel’s songs are “classic.”

  • Class A for Aicelle
    Class A for Aicelle

February 25, 2015 — While everyone was worrying about how they would get to work on time, I was excited to end the day and go straight to Aicelle Santos‘ first major concert at the PETA Theatre. I was skeptical at first if I would make it on time but, through God’s grace, everything just went unexpectedly smooth. I found a friend that carpooled me from Megamall to Cubao. Passing through the Ortigas station, we could see that the queue was a hot mess. Whew! Really dodged a bullet there.  My friends and I have followed Aicelle’s career since she was a runner-up in the 2nd season of GMA7‘s Pinoy Pop Superstar (PPS).  She became a regular in the now defunct show SOP, eventually being grouped with Jonalyn Viray (PPS Grand Champion Season 1) and Maricris Garcia (PPS Grand Champion Season 3) as the sorely missed girl group La Diva. After the group disbanded, each diva pursued their careers as solo artists. In 2013,  Aicelle bagged the title role in Katy! the Musical and, later that year, made a deeper mark in the theater world as Aileen, the biritera of Barangay Venizia, in Rak of Aegis.

Finally, it has happened to me.
